How to use this
- 1Enter distance swum (m/yd).
- 2Enter time (min).
- 3Enter seconds.
- 4Enter target race distance (m/yd).
- 5Read your pace per 100 (seconds) on the right — it updates as you type.
- 6Hit Share to keep the scenario or send it to someone.
About this calculator
Convert a swim time into pace per 100 yards or meters, project total time for a target distance, and get the interval splits to hold in the pool.
Worked example
Using the values the calculator loads with:
Inputs
- Distance swum: 400 m/yd
- Time: 7 min
- Seconds: 30
- Target race distance: 1500 m/yd
Results
- Pace per 100 (seconds): 112.5
- Pace per 50 (seconds): 56.3
- Projected target time (min): 28.13
- Pace per 100 (minutes): 1.88
What each field means
Inputs
- Distance swum (m/yd)
- The distance swum used in the calculation, measured in m/yd. Starts at 400 m/yd so you have a working example on load.
- Time (min)
- The time used in the calculation, measured in min. Starts at 7 min so you have a working example on load.
- Seconds
- The seconds used in the calculation. Starts at 30 so you have a working example on load. Accepted range: 0–59.
- Target race distance (m/yd)
- The target race distance used in the calculation, measured in m/yd. Starts at 1500 m/yd so you have a working example on load.
Results
- Pace per 100 (seconds)
- Returned as a decimal number and shown as the headline result. It recalculates instantly whenever you change an input, so you can compare scenarios without reloading.
- Pace per 50 (seconds)
- Returned as a decimal number. It recalculates instantly whenever you change an input, so you can compare scenarios without reloading.
- Projected target time (min)
- Returned as a decimal number. It recalculates instantly whenever you change an input, so you can compare scenarios without reloading.
- Pace per 100 (minutes)
- Returned as a decimal number. It recalculates instantly whenever you change an input, so you can compare scenarios without reloading.
FAQ
Yards or meters?
Either — the math is the same. Just don't mix them: 100 m is about 9% longer than 100 yd.
Will I hold this pace for 1500?
Most swimmers fade 3–8% over a long swim relative to a 400 pace. Treat the projection as the optimistic end.
Accuracy and limitations
- Population formulas describe averages; individual bodies vary, especially at the extremes of height, age, or muscle mass.
- Results do not account for medical conditions, medication, or pregnancy.
- Use this as a directional reference, not a diagnosis — talk to a clinician before acting on it.
