About this calculator

Sod is sold both by the individual piece (typically about 1.5 to 2 square feet per piece, cut in slabs or rolls) and by the pallet, with a standard pallet holding enough sod to cover roughly 400-500 square feet depending on the grower and cut size. This calculator takes your total lawn area to be sodded, divides by your supplier's coverage-per-pallet figure to get a raw pallet count, then rounds up since sod is a perishable living product that must be laid within about 24-48 hours of harvest and can't be meaningfully split or stored for a future partial order. It adds a modest waste factor for curved bed edges, odd-shaped yard corners, and pieces that get cut to fit around trees, walkways, and irregular borders, since sod doesn't tile perfectly onto every yard shape.
