About this calculator
Close rate is one of the most overlooked levers in home service businesses because it feels 'soft' compared to pricing or marketing spend, but a 5-point improvement in close rate often moves the needle more than any ad budget increase. This calculator takes lead volume, close rate, and average job value to show current revenue, then models the revenue and cost-per-acquisition impact of improving close rate.
Worked example
Using the values the calculator loads with:
Inputs
- Monthly leads / quote requests: 80
- Current close rate: 32 %
- Average job value: 425 $
- Monthly marketing spend: 3000 $
- Target close rate: 42 %
Results
- Current monthly revenue: $10,880
- Jobs won per month: 25.6
- Cost per acquired job: $117
- Revenue at target close rate: $14,280
- Revenue gain from improving close rate: $3,400

FAQ
What's a good close rate for home service quotes?
It varies by trade and lead source. Referral and repeat-customer leads often close at 50-70%, while cold digital leads (Google Ads, lead marketplaces like HomeAdvisor/Angi) typically close at 15-30% because the customer is shopping multiple providers. If your blended close rate is below 25% across all lead sources, look at response speed first, since it's the single biggest close-rate lever.
Why does response speed affect close rate so much?
Studies on service lead response consistently show that quoting within 5 minutes of a request more than doubles close rate compared to responses after an hour, because the customer is often still comparing providers in real time. Same-day, in-person quotes for larger jobs (moving, cleaning) close meaningfully better than phone-only quotes.
Does raising close rate always mean cutting price?
No, and it often shouldn't. Close rate improvements from faster response, better sales scripts, financing options, or clearer scope explanations don't touch price at all. Cutting price to close more jobs raises jobs won but can shrink revenue and profit simultaneously if the price cut exceeds the volume gain, so model both before assuming discounting is the answer.
Accuracy and limitations
- Results are estimates before tax, fees, and inflation unless an input explicitly covers them.
- Rates are treated as fixed for the whole period — variable-rate products will drift from this projection.
- This is educational maths, not financial advice. Check anything contractual with the lender or your accountant.
