About this calculator

Posted odds always include the book's built-in margin. A no-vig calculation removes that margin proportionally from both sides of a market so you can see what the odds would be if the book took zero cut — the 'fair' or 'true' price implied by where the market has set the line. This is the standard method sharp bettors and modelers use to build power ratings from market prices instead of trusting a single book's number outright. It's also the basis for finding closing line value: comparing your bet price against the no-vig closing number tells you whether you beat the market, independent of whether the individual bet won or lost. Enter both sides of a two-way market (moneyline, spread, or total) in American odds. The calculator normalizes the implied probabilities to sum to exactly 100%, then converts those fair probabilities back into odds. This method works cleanly for two-outcome markets; three-way markets (soccer moneylines with a draw) need a slightly different multi-way normalization not covered here.

FAQ

What is 'hold' and how much is normal?

Hold is the percentage of total handle the book expects to keep regardless of outcome, on a two-way market. Standard -110/-110 lines hold about 4.5%. Reduced-juice books offer -105/-105 (about 2.4% hold). Lopsided lines on heavy favorites, like -400/+320, often carry higher hold, sometimes 6-8%.

Why do I need no-vig odds instead of just using the raw line?

Raw odds overstate both outcomes' probability because the vig is baked into each side. If you're building a model or checking whether you got a good price relative to the market, you need the vig removed first, otherwise you're comparing your estimate against an inflated number and will underestimate your real edge or lack of it.

Does this work for three-way markets like soccer with a draw?

Not directly with this simple proportional method — three-way markets need multiplicative or Shin's method normalization to handle the draw correctly, since proportional vig removal on three outcomes can distort longshot prices. This calculator is built for two-way markets: standard US spreads, totals, and moneylines without a draw.
