What's a good turns-per-day benchmark?
Healthy urban laundromats average 3.5-5 turns per washer per day across all machines; top-performing locations near dense apartment stock hit 6+. Under 2.5 turns per day usually signals a location or pricing problem, not a machine problem.
Why does utilization rate matter more than raw hours open?
Extending hours from 16 to 20 does nothing if the extra 4 hours run at 10% utilization — you're paying for lights and staff against almost no revenue. It's usually more profitable to concentrate marketing and promotions on filling the slow midday and late-evening windows within existing hours.
How do large-capacity washers change the math?
Big washers (40-80 lb) have longer cycle times but higher price points and pull multiple loads' worth of laundry per turn, so they often generate more revenue per turn than they lose in cycle speed. Model them separately from standard washers if your mix is heavy on large machines.
