How much sod do I need?
For a 1,500 sq ft lawn with a 5% waste allowance, you need 1,575 sq ft of sod, which comes to about 4 standard pallets at 450 sq ft per pallet.
Why add a waste allowance?
Curved beds, sidewalks, tree rings, and irregular yard edges always require cutting pieces to fit, wasting some material — 5% is typical for a simple rectangular yard, 10-15% for yards with lots of curves and obstacles.
How much sod is on a pallet?
It varies by supplier and grass type but commonly runs 400-500 square feet per pallet — always confirm with your specific supplier before ordering.
Should I measure my whole property or just the lawn?
Measure only the areas that will actually be sodded — exclude the house footprint, driveway, walkways, and any beds or hardscaping.
