For a 200 sq ft bed at 3 inches deep, you need 50 cubic feet of mulch, which is about 25 standard 2-cubic-foot bags, or roughly 1.85 cubic yards if buying in bulk.
How deep should mulch be?
2-4 inches is standard; more than 4 inches can smother roots and encourage rot against tree trunks and stems.
Is bulk or bagged mulch cheaper?
Bulk delivery is almost always cheaper per cubic yard once you need more than about 2-3 cubic yards (roughly 27-40 bags), since bagged mulch carries a packaging and retail markup.
Does bed shape matter?
