About this calculator

Calculate double-time pay: your hourly wage × 2, then weekly gross with any mix of regular, overtime, and double-time hours. Useful for holiday shifts, seventh-consecutive-day rules, and union contracts.

FormulaDouble-time rate = hourly wage × 2. Weekly gross = (wage × regular hours) + (wage × 1.5 × OT hours) + (wage × 2 × double-time hours).

FAQ

What is double time for $20 an hour?

$40 an hour. Double time is simply your wage multiplied by two — $15 becomes $30, $25 becomes $50.

When is double time required?

Federal law never requires double time — it comes from state law (California pays 2× after 12 hours in a day, and for hours beyond 8 on a seventh consecutive workday), union contracts, or employer holiday policies.

Is double time worth it after taxes?

Usually yes. It's taxed as ordinary income, so you keep the same percentage as the rest of your pay — the withholding just looks bigger on a large check.

Accuracy and limitations

  • Results are estimates before tax, fees, and inflation unless an input explicitly covers them.
  • Rates are treated as fixed for the whole period — variable-rate products will drift from this projection.
  • This is educational maths, not financial advice. Check anything contractual with the lender or your accountant.
