About this calculator

In-house membership plans (no-insurance dental savings plans, veterinary wellness plans) trade a discount on included services for predictable recurring revenue and better patient retention. This calculator totals the cost of the services bundled into a membership year, applies your target discount off retail pricing to set the member price, and checks the resulting margin against your cost to deliver those services, so the plan doesn't quietly become a money-losing perk once uptake grows.

FormulaPlan price = bundled retail value × (1 − discount%); margin = plan price − direct cost to deliver bundled services.

FAQ

What discount should a membership plan offer?

15-25% off retail bundled value is the common range — enough to feel like real savings to the patient or pet owner, but not so deep that it erodes the margin on services you'd be delivering anyway. Go lower for practices with thin retail margins to begin with.

Does membership revenue replace insurance billing?

For dental, membership plans are typically marketed to patients without insurance and don't interact with third-party payers at all, which is part of the appeal — no claims processing. For veterinary wellness plans, they usually sit alongside, not instead of, pet insurance, which covers illness and injury rather than routine preventive care.

How do add-on services outside the bundle get priced?

Anything not explicitly included in the plan (fillings, extractions, dental cleanings under anesthesia, sick visits) should be billed at a modest member discount, commonly 10-15% off retail, separate from the core annual plan fee. This keeps the base plan price stable while still rewarding membership on bigger-ticket work.

Accuracy and limitations

  • Results are estimates before tax, fees, and inflation unless an input explicitly covers them.
  • Rates are treated as fixed for the whole period — variable-rate products will drift from this projection.
  • This is educational maths, not financial advice. Check anything contractual with the lender or your accountant.
