About this calculator

Case acceptance rate — the share of diagnosed, recommended treatment that patients actually schedule and complete — is usually the biggest gap between a practice's clinical diagnosis quality and its financial performance. This calculator divides accepted treatment dollar value by total diagnosed treatment value to compute the acceptance rate, then shows the dollar amount of diagnosed but unaccepted treatment sitting on the table, which is typically driven by financing options, same-visit scheduling, and how treatment is presented rather than by the diagnosis itself.

FormulaCase acceptance % = accepted treatment value ÷ total diagnosed treatment value × 100; unaccepted value = diagnosed − accepted.

FAQ

What's a good case acceptance rate?

65-75% is a strong benchmark for comprehensive treatment plans in general dentistry. Rates below 50% usually point to a presentation problem — treatment explained by the doctor in clinical language without a clear cost and financing conversation with a trained coordinator — more often than a pricing problem.

How much does financing availability move acceptance rates?

Offering a third-party financing option (like a patient payment plan) commonly lifts acceptance on treatment plans over $1,000 by 10-20 percentage points, since it removes the need for the patient to pay the full amount upfront or wait for insurance benefits to reset.

Should elective or cosmetic treatment be included in this metric?

Track it separately if possible. Elective treatment (whitening, veneers) has naturally lower and more discretionary acceptance than medically necessary treatment (fillings, crowns on symptomatic teeth), so blending them together can mask whether necessary care is being accepted at an acceptable rate.

Accuracy and limitations

  • Results are estimates before tax, fees, and inflation unless an input explicitly covers them.
  • Rates are treated as fixed for the whole period — variable-rate products will drift from this projection.
  • This is educational maths, not financial advice. Check anything contractual with the lender or your accountant.
