About this calculator
Windshield pricing changed when cameras moved behind the glass. A base windshield on an older car is a $300 job; the same size glass on a car with lane-keeping and adaptive cruise needs a static or dynamic ADAS recalibration afterward that runs $150–600 on its own, and skipping it leaves safety systems aiming at the wrong place. Rain sensors, acoustic interlayers, heated wiper parks and heads-up display all add to the glass price too. This calculator prices the glass by feature set, adds recalibration and mouldings, applies your state's tax band, and then models the insurance path — including the several states that require zero-deductible glass replacement. Worked assumption for the defaults: aftermarket glass with rain sensor at $420, dynamic recalibration at $275, $60 of mouldings, 7.25% tax — about $810 cash, or a $500 deductible if you claim it in a standard-deductible state.

FAQ
Which states waive the glass deductible?
A small group — Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina are the commonly cited ones — require comprehensive policies to cover windshield replacement with no deductible, and some carriers offer a full-glass endorsement anywhere. Confirm with your own policy; rules and carrier practice change.
Do I really need the recalibration?
If a camera or radar looks through or mounts to the windshield, yes. The manufacturer specifies it, the shop's liability depends on it, and an uncalibrated lane-keeping system can steer on bad data. Refusing it to save $275 is the wrong economy.
Will a glass claim raise my premium?
Comprehensive glass claims are usually not chargeable the way at-fault collisions are, but repeated claims can affect renewal in some markets. One claim on a $500 deductible for an $800 job is generally worth making.
Why show a range instead of one price?
Because two honest shops quote the same job 20–30% apart on parts sourcing alone — OEM versus quality aftermarket, remanufactured versus new, and whether the flat-rate book hours match what the job actually takes on your vehicle. The range is the band most real quotes land inside; the midpoint is what to expect.
Accuracy and limitations
- Results are estimates before tax, fees, and inflation unless an input explicitly covers them.
- Rates are treated as fixed for the whole period — variable-rate products will drift from this projection.
- This is educational maths, not financial advice. Check anything contractual with the lender or your accountant.
