About this calculator

Carpet cleaning is usually sold per room or per square foot, but the real cost driver is soil level and furniture moving, not just size. This calculator prices rooms at a base rate adjusted by an average room size factor and soil level multiplier, adds a furniture-moving fee, and floors the job at a minimum charge so a single small room doesn't underprice the truck-mount setup and drive time.

FormulaPrice = max(minimum, rooms × base room rate × soil multiplier) + furniture moving fee.

FAQ

Why price by soil level instead of always charging the same rate?

Heavy soil and pet stains require pre-treatment, longer dwell time for cleaning solution, sometimes enzyme treatment for odor, and multiple passes with the truck mount, which can double the time versus a light maintenance clean. Charging a flat rate regardless of soil level systematically underprices the jobs that actually take the most skill and time.

What counts as a 'room' for pricing purposes?

Most companies define a room as up to roughly 200-300 square feet; a large open-concept living/dining area often counts as two rooms for pricing even though it's one continuous space, since it takes proportionally more time and product. Hallways and stairs are usually priced separately as smaller add-on items rather than full rooms.

Is a minimum job charge necessary for carpet cleaning?

Yes, because loading and setting up a truck-mount system, running hoses into the house, and driving to the job all take a fixed amount of time regardless of job size. A single small room without a minimum charge often doesn't cover the setup and drive time, let alone leave a profit margin.

Accuracy and limitations

  • Results are estimates before tax, fees, and inflation unless an input explicitly covers them.
  • Rates are treated as fixed for the whole period — variable-rate products will drift from this projection.
  • This is educational maths, not financial advice. Check anything contractual with the lender or your accountant.
