FAQ

Does a low one-minute score predict outcomes?

Not on its own. The five-minute score and its trend matter far more, and Apgar was never designed as a prognostic tool.

When is it scored?

At one and five minutes, and every five minutes thereafter if the score stays below 7.

Accuracy and limitations

  • Population formulas describe averages; individual bodies vary, especially at the extremes of height, age, or muscle mass.
  • Results do not account for medical conditions, medication, or pregnancy.
  • Use this as a directional reference, not a diagnosis — talk to a clinician before acting on it.
