Breakup Readiness Score Calculator

A structured way to think through a decision people usually make with a coin toss at 2am. Scores ten factors and gives you a clear read, not an instruction.

Short answer

Breakup Readiness Score Calculator

20Readiness score

The honest answer is that it could go either way — which usually means a concrete, time-boxed attempt at repair, then a real decision. You scored 20/40 (50% of the maximum), with 10 of 10 items in the upper half. The single highest item was "I struggle to picture a future with them that I want" — that is usually the most useful thing to bring up first, because specific examples get better help than a general "I've been off lately."

How it's calculated: 20 out of 40 — genuinely unresolved range on this scale. Adjust the inputs below to recalculate for your own numbers.

Disclaimer: For reflection and self-awareness, not clinical assessment. Scores are based on published, widely used research frameworks but this tool is not a validated instrument and results should be treated as a conversation starter, not a verdict.

Formula used

How the score is calculated

Ten items scored 0–4, summed to 0–40. Higher scores indicate more readiness to end the relationship. Items were chosen to separate the two things people conflate at this decision point: temporary distress (which repair addresses) and structural depletion — lost respect, lost self, staying for logistics — which repair generally does not.

Total = sum of 10 items (0–4 each) → 0–40 → severity band

This tool does not decide anything

It exists to make the shape of your own thinking visible. Nobody should end a relationship because a web page returned a number. What the score is good for is noticing when eight of your ten answers point one way while you have been telling yourself the situation is fifty-fifty.

If the safety item is high, stop scoring

If you do not feel emotionally or physically safe, the rest of the score is irrelevant. In the US, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233 (or text START to 88788), free and confidential, 24/7.

FAQ

Is a high score a recommendation to break up?

No. It is a summary of what you just told it. Take the result to a therapist, a friend who will be honest, or a journal — not straight to a conversation.

What if I score high but do not want to leave?

Extremely common, and worth sitting with rather than resolving quickly. Ambivalence usually means two true things at once: the relationship is depleting you, and it still matters to you.

Should my partner see this?

Only if you have already decided you want to have the conversation. A score is a blunt way to open one.
