The real cost of part-time in Arizona
Cutting from $75,000 to 60% hours drops gross by $30,000 but take-home by only about $22,203 — the tax system hands back the difference because your top dollars were the most heavily taxed.
Beyond the paycheck
Benefits often matter more than tax: health insurance, 401(k) match eligibility and paid leave frequently change below 30 hours a week. Price those before deciding.

Why does take-home fall less than my hours?
Progressive brackets: the income you give up was taxed at your highest marginal rate, so losing it costs less per dollar than your average rate.
Does Arizona tax part-time income differently?
No — state and federal tax apply to annual income the same way regardless of hours. Only the lower total changes the bill.
What about benefits?
Employers often prorate or drop benefits below 30 hours/week — health insurance and 401(k) match changes can matter more than the tax math here.
