A simple logo with 20% coverage on white sits far below a full-bleed photo print at 90%+ coverage with a white underbase layer doubled for opacity. This calculator takes your print area, estimated coverage percentage, ink density factor (mL per square inch at 100% coverage — typically 0.015-0.03 mL/sq in for a single layer depending on printer and ink type), number of layers (white + CMYK + clear coat commonly = 2-3 effective passes), and ink cost, to produce a per-print ink cost. UV ink runs considerably more than eco-solvent or aqueous ink, often $150-$300 per liter for quality UV-curable ink, so getting the estimate close matters for margin on high-volume promotional or décor printing.

FAQ

Why does white ink layer count matter so much?

White underbase on dark or clear substrates is often printed as two passes for full opacity, effectively doubling ink use for that layer alone. Skipping a double white pass saves ink but can leave visible substrate show-through on darker materials.

How do I find my printer's real density factor?
