About this calculator

Print quality is pixels per inch at the intended viewing distance. A 24-megapixel file makes a gorgeous 16×24 at 300 DPI and a perfectly good 40×60 gallery print viewed from six feet. This shows both limits.

FormulaPrint inches = pixel dimension ÷ DPI; DPI = pixel dimension ÷ print inches.

FAQ

Is 300 DPI always required?

No — 300 DPI is a print-shop convention for images held at reading distance. Billboards run under 20 DPI and look flawless because nobody stands two feet away.

Can I upscale to print bigger?

Modern AI upscalers genuinely add usable detail for 2× enlargements of clean, well-focused files. They cannot rescue soft focus or heavy noise.

Accuracy and limitations
