DTF (direct-to-film) printing has become the go-to for small-batch, full-color, no-minimum apparel decoration because it skips screens entirely and works on any fabric color without an underbase step. Cost is driven by design area rather than color count: film cost per square inch, ink usage which correlates with coverage percentage, adhesive powder cost, and the heat press cycle to apply the transfer. This calculator adds those four cost centers plus a blank garment cost to land on a full delivered-shirt cost, distinct from just the transfer cost, since many shops sell transfers alone to other decorators as well as finished shirts to end customers. Gang-sheet printing, where many designs are nested onto one film sheet to minimize waste, is the standard production method and this calculator assumes per-square-inch costing consistent with that workflow.
