FAQ
Why subtract lab fees at the chair level instead of overall?
Restorative and prosthetic cases that rely heavily on outside labs (crowns, dentures, implants) can show high gross production but thin margin once the lab bill comes in. Netting it out per chair-hour shows which chair and which procedure mix is actually profitable versus just busy.
What's a healthy adjustment rate?
Most fee-for-service practices with in-network insurance patients run 15-25% adjustments off gross. Above 30% usually means your fee schedule is too far above the insurance allowed amount, or you're in too many low-reimbursement networks for your market.
How is this different from production per visit?
Production per visit ignores how long the chair was tied up. A two-hour crown prep and a fifteen-minute exam can produce similar revenue, but the crown ties up the chair eight times longer — per-hour production exposes that difference and helps with scheduling decisions.
