About this calculator

Cats are small enough that a 20-calorie error is a meaningful part of the day. This tool computes resting energy requirement, applies a maintenance factor, and splits the total across wet and dry food so you can feed a mixed diet without guessing.

FormulaRER = 70 × kg^0.75; daily kcal = RER × factor; wet share split by calories.

FAQ

Is free-feeding dry food okay?

It works for cats that self-regulate, but most indoor neutered cats overeat on free access. Measuring the dry portion into a puzzle feeder gets the same enrichment without the calorie drift.

How fast should an overweight cat lose weight?

No more than 0.5–1% of body weight per week. Faster loss in cats risks hepatic lipidosis, so cut calories gradually and check in with a vet.
