About this calculator
Three hundred linear feet is a typical backyard perimeter on a suburban lot or one long property-line run. Fence material counts follow directly from post spacing: at the standard 8-foot spacing you get one post per section plus one to close the run, and each post takes one to two bags of concrete depending on depth and hole diameter. This calculator returns post count, panel or section count, rail count, concrete bags, and total installed cost at your material and labor rates, with gates handled separately since they carry hardware and labor costs a plain section does not.

FAQ
How many posts for 300 feet of fence?
At 8-foot spacing you need 38 line and end posts plus two posts per gate, so 40 for a single-gate run. Tighter 6-foot spacing pushes that to 51.
How deep should fence posts go?
One third of the above-ground height, or below the frost line if that is deeper. A 6-foot privacy fence usually means 2 to 2.5 foot holes at 10-12 inch diameter.
Does 300 feet need a permit?
Many municipalities require a fence permit regardless of length, and most enforce height limits and setbacks. A survey is worth the money before setting posts on a run this long.
