Credits are the weights
A 4-credit B moves your GPA twice as much as a 2-credit B, which is why the same letters produce different GPAs at different schools. Lab sciences and lectures-with-discussion often carry the heavy credit loads — protect those grades first.
High school vs college scale
Colleges don't weight courses: an A in AP Chemistry and an A in PE are both 4.0. Weighted high-school GPAs above 4.0 come from honors/AP bonuses that don't carry over — colleges recompute from the transcript on their own scale.
FAQ
What is an A− worth?
3.7 at most schools that use plus/minus. B+ is 3.3, B− is 2.7, C+ is 2.3. This calculator groups by whole letter; use the cumulative GPA calculator for exact plus/minus math.
Do pass/fail courses count in GPA?
No — pass/fail courses count toward credits attempted but carry no grade points, so they don't move your GPA either way.
