Bags or truck?
The crossover is roughly 1–1.5 yards. Below that, 80-lb bags at $6–8 each beat the ready-mix short-load fee; above it, delivered concrete wins on price and saves a day of mixing. A yard of bagged concrete runs $270–360 versus $150–190 delivered.
Thickness is the decision that matters
Four inches for patios and walkways, five to six for driveways, six for garage floors and anything bearing vehicles. Skimping on thickness to save half a yard is the most expensive mistake in residential flatwork — the re-pour costs ten times the savings.
FAQ
How many cubic feet are in a yard of concrete?
27. Divide your volume in cubic feet by 27 to get cubic yards.
How much extra should I order?
10% is the standard allowance for uneven subgrade, spillage, and form bowing. Running short mid-pour means a cold joint or an emergency second delivery — both worse than a quarter-yard left over.
