How to actually get paid in Italy
AdSense supports a few different payment rails in Italy — they're not equal on speed, fee, or FX. Listed in order of best-to-worst for typical creators:
| Method | Fee | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| SEPA bonifico (EUR direct deposit) Default option. IBAN-based, clean. | Free | 1–2 business days |
| Wise EUR account Useful for USD-side timing. | Free in / ~0.4% out | Same day |
Fees and FX rates change without notice — confirm in AdSense and with your bank before relying on these numbers.
YouTube Partner Program & monetisation in Italy
- Standard YPP thresholds apply.
- Full monetisation features available.
Once you're in YPP, the full set of Watch Page features (ads, Memberships, Super Chat, Super Thanks, YouTube Premium share) is generally available — country differences here are unusual but not unheard of, so always re-check in YouTube Studio > Monetisation.
US withholding & tax reporting in Italy
Google must withhold US tax on the share of your revenue that comes from US viewers. The default rate is 30%. Filing W-8BEN in AdSense > Payments > Tax info under the US–Italy treaty drops it to 0%. Skipping this step is the most expensive unforced error a non-US creator can make.
Most creators open a Partita IVA under regime forfettario — flat 5% (first 5 years) or 15% on a coefficiente-reduced base, capped at €85k revenue. Above that or by choice, regime ordinario kicks in at 23–43% IRPEF plus regional surcharges. INPS Gestione Separata adds ~26% on net for those without another pension scheme. W-8BEN zeros US-viewer withholding.
Tax rules change. This is general information, not tax advice — confirm specifics with a local accountant before filing.
Honest take: what most Italy creators get wrong
Regime forfettario is one of the most creator-friendly tax setups in Europe — 5% effective tax for the first 5 years if you stay below €85k is genuinely exceptional. The trap is that you LOSE forfettario status the year after you exceed the threshold and there's no glide path. Plan that cliff: if you cross €85k, structure the next year before it starts, not after.
