YouTube Partner Program & monetisation in Ireland

  • Full monetisation features available.

US withholding & tax reporting in Ireland

Step 1 — File W-8BEN in AdSense

Google must withhold US tax on the share of your revenue that comes from US viewers. The default rate is 30%. Filing W-8BEN in AdSense > Payments > Tax info under the US–Ireland treaty drops it to 0%. Skipping this step is the most expensive unforced error a non-US creator can make.

Step 2 — Report locally in Ireland

Sole trader is the default. Income tax 20% (up to ~€44k) or 40% above, plus PRSI 4% and USC 0.5–8%. Combined marginal hits 52% at higher incomes. Form 11 self-assessment due 31 October each year. VAT registration only above €40k for services — AdSense exports are out of scope.

Tax rules change. This is general information, not tax advice — confirm specifics with a local accountant before filing.

Honest take: what most Ireland creators get wrong

Ireland's 52% marginal tax band looks scary but only bites above ~€70k of total income. For most growing channels, the 40% IT + 4% PRSI + 4–8% USC blend lands around 30–34% effective. The W-8BEN treaty zeros US withholding, payouts in EUR are clean, and Revenue.ie is unusually good as a tax authority.
