"description": "Most renters guess their contents limit and guess low. This calculator builds the number from the ground up: a per-room replacement estimate for furniture and everyday goods, plus separately valued electronics, jewelry, bicycles, and instruments that often exceed the sub-limits printed in a standard policy. It then applies a typical rate per $1,000 of contents coverage, your deductible choice, and your liability limit to produce an annual and monthly premium, and flags where scheduled personal property (a rider) is likely required. Renters policies are the cheapest meaningful insurance most households can buy — often $12-25 a month — and the coverage extends beyond the apartment to theft from a car and, in many policies, loss of use if the unit becomes uninhabitable. The point of this tool is to make sure the limit you choose actually replaces what you own at today's prices rather than at what you originally paid.",
