  "description": "Color is the highest-cost service category in most salons, and it's the one most often underpriced because owners price off competitor menus instead of actual product spend. This calculator breaks a color service into tube/bowl usage: grams of color, developer ratio, foil or bowl count, and toner, then converts that into a dollar cost using your wholesale price per ounce or per box. It compares that cost against your service price to show gross margin in dollars and percent. Most full-service colorists should be targeting 8-12% product cost as a share of the service price; anything above 15% usually means either overuse, under-pricing, or both. Run a full foil highlight and a single-process retouch side by side to see how differently they eat into margin.",
