  "summary": "Project monthly revenue from a DC fast or Level 2 charging station based on sessions and kWh dispensed.",
  "description": "EV charging station revenue depends on session frequency, average energy dispensed per session, and your price per kWh (or per-minute pricing where local law requires it), minus the electricity cost you pay your utility, which is often on a demand-charge structure that penalizes low-utilization stations disproportionately. This calculator takes sessions per day, average kWh per session, price per kWh charged to drivers, wholesale electricity cost per kWh, and a monthly demand charge or network/software fee, to compute gross revenue, electricity cost, and net monthly profit per charger. DC fast chargers see far higher revenue per unit than Level 2 but also carry a much higher equipment and installation cost and higher demand charges from short bursts of high power draw.",
  "formula": "Gross revenue = sessions/day × kWh/session × price/kWh × 30.4. Electricity cost = sessions/day × kWh/session × wholesale rate × 30.4. Net profit = gross revenue − electricity cost − fixed monthly fees.",

  "faq": [
    {
      "q": "Why do demand charges matter so much for DC fast chargers?",
      "a": "Utilities often bill commercial demand charges based on the single highest 15-minute power draw in the month, and a 150-350 kW fast charger can spike demand dramatically even with low overall utilization, sometimes making the demand charge larger than the energy cost itself at low-traffic sites."
    },
    {
      "q": "What margin per kWh is realistic?",
      "a": "Public DC fast charging networks commonly price $0.35-$0.55/kWh against wholesale electricity cost of $0.10-$0.20/kWh, giving a gross margin of roughly 50-70% before demand charges and fixed fees — but low utilization sites can see that margin wiped out entirely by demand charges and network fees."
    },
    {
      "q": "How many sessions per day should I expect at a new site?",
      "a": "Highway corridor DC fast chargers can average 8-15+ sessions per day per stall at a mature, well-trafficked site; workplace or retail Level 2 chargers typically see far fewer paid sessions per day (2-5) since dwell time is longer and pricing per session is usually much lower."
    },
    {
      "q": "Does charger hardware and installation cost factor into this?",
      "a": "No, this tool is operating profit only. DC fast charger hardware plus installation (including any utility service upgrade) commonly runs $50,000-$150,000+ per stall, so pair this monthly net profit figure with a separate payback calculation against that upfront capital cost."
