  "description": "Drywall pricing has two halves that get quoted together but behave differently: hanging (cutting and screwing sheets to the framing) and finishing (taping, three coats of joint compound, and sanding to a level 4 or 5 finish). Finishing is the labor-heavy half and the reason a smooth level-5 ceiling costs much more than a knockdown-textured wall. This calculator converts your wall and ceiling area into 4x8 or 4x12 sheet counts, adds a waste factor, then prices hang plus finish labor at your local per-square-foot rate. 2026 US national averages run about $2.00-$3.50 per square foot installed and finished for standard level-4 walls, with level-5 smooth finishes adding roughly 20-35%.",
